What Does This Remind You Of #4

Below is part of a weekly series called What Does This Remind You Of? Learn how you can participate at the bottom of this post!

Ordinary things in extraordinary places. My brain is automatically confused. Indoor door in an outdoor sea.

I hear the cool, rushing water. The closed door is an emblem of wonder. There’s no telling what’s on the other side in this moment. It’s blocking out a world that seeps and rushes around it. It doesn’t shut out a thing.

It reminds me of a dream, where it’s not out of the norm for ordinary things to be in extraordinary places. It looks absolutely unreal. It’s hard to stop my brain from asking questions. How did this door get here? What’s holding it up? Who puts household items in the sea?

Whereas my imagination wonders things like how many people have sat up against it? Passed by it in a hallway, slammed it in a fit of rage? It reminds me of a stairway to nowhere. A door that opens to nothing. Or to another dimension maybe. It reminds me of being in another world, where I am one of many people wandering freely and aimlessly without judgement, stumbling upon bizarre things and approaching them with curiosity.

I want to go in, through, out, and around it, again and again.

It also sort of reminds me of the twilight zone. And even that movie The Shining for some reason. It’s ominous, and marvelous. A door that waits for no one, just sits happily closed.

To nothing.

Here’s What You Do Now

I have to tell you I was looking forward to this week’s prompt! I’m so glad you’re doing this. I’ve sent a few writer friends by here to take part but they haven’t had time yet. I’m hoping they can do this one, it’s so cool! “Ordinary things in extraordinary places.” I love that!

Thank you so much Melissa for spreading the word! I’ve been really trying to get the word out about it to writing/blogging communities but it doesn’t seem to be sticking. I need to get a bit more creative with the way I share it, and also share it with the right people. I feel like it’s so fun and super helpful for writers to just write without thinking, and to let themselves be taken places they’ve never gone before with their writing. And I love weird pictures! Thank you so much for participating. If I didn’t have at least one participant I think I would have given up after the second prompt! :)
