SeasonOfOverwhelm

Christmas is another job in itself. In addition to writing for sites you hope will accept your pitch, scheduling posts on social media, tweaking your blog every which way, prototyping apps, trying to get 2-3 weekly workouts in, as well as 6-8 servings of fruits and vegetables each day, Christmas walks in wearing golden stilettos, throwing fake snow and glitter everywhere, demanding a peppermint martini.

Tis the season of overwhelm, my friends, welcome to the party! I’d offer you said peppermint martini but it’s somewhere towards the end of my list between ‘cancel membership for serious blogger community before they charge you’ and ‘send Christmas list to family’.

I’m sitting here at Starbucks before work carefully parsing out each thing I have to do and giving each item 15-30 minute time slots. I still haven’t started my Christmas shopping. This is probably because every time I sit down to the computer to buy something, I’m all over the place and it never gets done.

You know the feeling I’m sure of it.

Regardless, I freakin’ love this season. I know it’s chaotic, but I can’t help but love every minute of its glittery yule tide carols of comfort and joy. I’ve decided I’m not super woman, and the imaginary woman I keep comparing myself to, you know, the one who gets everything done perfectly and organized without a pang of tension or stress, doesn’t exist.

On top of everything though, I’m creating a holiday gift guide for the blog! It’s going to be filled with wonderful things for writers, bloggers, readers, and/or people who love to be organized. Or people who wish they were organized. Like me!

A lot of other bloggers are putting out some really cool stuff in their holiday guides, and I’d like to do the same for you, just in case you’re low on Christmas gift ideas for people you love, or if you want to snag something sweet for yourself. Yesterday I spent the entire day (no joke) searching for cool products, and I ended up with about 17 things. I can’t wait to share them with you!

I’m also making things exceedingly complicated by trying to create a nice layout of all the gifts for the blog in Photoshop, which I just purchased and am thoroughly frustrated with. However, patience.

I’m aiming (fingers crossed) to put out the holiday gift guide by December 1st.

I’m also toying with the idea of starting a Facebook page. What do you guys think? On the one hand I know I could use it to build a community, and sure I could probably pay for sponsored posts too. But I’m worried about engagement, because I’ve heard horror stories about people who can’t get their posts seen by their readers, and not too long ago Copyblogger deleted their Facebook page, because it just wasn’t working for them.

I guess also a part of me doesn’t feel like working at building followers for ANOTHER platform. As a blogger you have to work at new subscribers, new followers on Pinterest and Bloglovin and Twitter, not to mention Google Plus, and the whole thing is exhausting as it is. I’m just not sure I want to put in the effort to create a Facebook community as well.

But what do you guys think? Do any of you have successful Facebook pages where you feel like they’re worth it? Do you feel like this blog needs one?

And do tell me how you’re getting through this wonderful season, I could use a few pointers. :)

Till next time!

I think the “Facebook Page” question is a challenging one. I have one, but I don’t feed and nurture it like I should. Since you’re interested in doing sponsored posts (sounds like you are anyway) I think I would establish one (and try to help it thrive). I am always having to tell a potential vendor my page url and how many likes it has, so I feel like I need to have it to advance my blogging goals.

I feel that way too! I feel like every time I try and participate in any sponsorship opportunity, my FB likes are more valued than my Twitter followers. Thanks for the feedback, Paula! I may give it a go :)

I don’t like Facebook. I have a personal page and a fan page. The fan page doesn’t get ANY interaction, and if you pay for sponsored posts (like pay to reach more people), it tends to hurt your page. Because the second you stop paying for it, your numbers go wayyy down. It messes up the algorithm. Also fan pages tend to not show up in news feeds. I only use my personal FB here and there. Someone said FB is for who you used to know and twitter is for who you need to know. FB, for me, is stressful and doesn’t feed my blog or business whatsoever. I LOVE twitter and Insta though.

As for the holidays, I’m taking it one day at a time lol.

Thanks so much for the feedback Lyndsay! That’s exactly how I was feeling when I started thinking about starting one. I figured it might be another platform that I’d have to monitor that may not be useful. Your feedback is so helpful, because I’ve been looking to hear from people who have one, and what their experience has been. Thank you so much for sharing!

Ha, your intro cracked me up. You nailed it. Not only am I sending out job/internship applications, working on final projects, wanting to redesign my blog, nervously eyeing my bank account and trying to maintain a work-life balance, but now I’m got that stilettoed Christmas to contend with!

Deep breaths. Just trying to get through a day at a time and remember to enjoy the season. :)

Definitely need to remember to enjoy the season above all. It’s my absolute favorite, even amidst all of the glittering chaos! I’m right there with you wanting to redesign my blog, I think I want to do that every 2-3 months haha. Have you figured out what direction you’re going to go in? By that I mean, are you hiring a designer or maybe just finding a different template for your blog? Also, I’m nervously eyeing my bank account too. I cringe every time I have to transfer from my savings for Christmas shopping, eep! Haha. Thanks for stopping by!
