Holiday Collage Gift Guide Final

The very first holiday gift guide for writers and bloggers on A Novel Quest has arrived! I’m so proud of it I could sneeze. How little sense did that make?

I spent about two full days working on this over the Thanksgiving break, watching countless Photoshop tutorials on how to make this layout look as pretty as possible. I took a few notes from other holiday guides I’d seen on the net, and I knew exactly the kind of look I was going for.

So here’s the gist: I’m drinking egg nog and rum and I have the Christmas music WAY up. You won’t even know what to do with all of this good cheer.

Hi friends! I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving, I know I’ll be eating leftovers for another week, and I’m so, so, so thankful for all of the wonderful family and friends I got to spend the holiday with.

Now for the fun stuff. Black friday was amazing. I bought a lot of Christmas presents for super cheap at 11:30pm online and I’m super glad about it.

But what we’re all really looking forward to is Cyber Monday. Or at least I am. Because online shopping is the way to go this year for me (and really should have been for every year before this).

Serial Logo 700x700

I’m not old enough to know what it was like to sit around the radio at night and listen to a good story without a visual, but ever since I started listening to the Serial podcast, I see the appeal.

The Serial podcast is a single story per show, that adds up to tell one larger one. It’s a series of episodes surrounding the murder of a young teenage girl back in 1999, with a narrative that flows like a true crime detective novel, except it’s all true.

SpotifyBlogPost

I don’t think I’ve ever dedicated a post to music on this blog before, and there needs to be at least one.

Lately I’ve been listening to some damn good Spotify artists over and over. If you’re not on Spotify, the time has officially come. There’s too much good music you’re missing out on. There are too many public playlists to keep your ears happy, and far too much amazing new music to discover. Your ears literally do not even realize what they’ve been craving until they’ve heard all the music Spotify has to offer. It’s the one thing I gladly pay for every month ($10) and can’t get enough of.

Lynda Blog Post 3

My mom got a Lynda membership a few months ago, and sent me her login info so I could take all kinds of Lynda courses for free. So what did I do with all of that free, limitless knowledge that could help me grow my online marketing, writing, and wanna-be entrepreneurship skills? Absolutely nada. Nothing.

Why? Because when I do have time, I want to do. I want to write, I want to research new opportunities, I want to publish. I keep my foot on the gas pedal and pencil in only things that will get me closer to my goals, and setting up time to learn never makes it in. And it should.

6 Ways Bloggers and Brands Use Pic Monkey_2

If you love editing photos on the web, but learning Photoshop was never in the cards for you (and you’ve made your peace with it), Pic Monkey is a brilliant alternative. I learned how to use Pic Monkey the day I asked myself, “How do I put text on pictures?” It was different from all of the other photo editors out there because it was so easy to use, and it seemed to offer more editing capabilities than the average free photo editing site. Since then, I’ve used it to liven up my blog posts, and even to create my ebook cover earlier this year.

New documentary alert!

I’m not sure if you guys are fans of documentaries, but I love them. I don’t watch enough of them, but I still love them. One of my good friends Alyssa is making one, as you remember, but I’ve told that story already.

The other day through Business2Blogger (a service I raved about in my ebook, Adult Toys), I was offered the opportunity to spread the word about a documentary called A Billion Entrepreneurs. The goal of the documentary is ‘to put an entrepreneur in every home’. Could you imagine?

Final Cover_4

It feels awesome to finish something. January has been amazing so far in terms of productivity, and I can’t think of a better way to finish the first month of the year than with the accomplishment of having finished my very first ebook!

Okay so here’s the part where I get all modest and talk about how it’s not all that great. I mean it is, but really, it not a big deal, haha. I really just wanted to reward my subscribers with an ebook. After hours, days, (weeks?) of pondering what I could possibly write an ebook about, my sister finally said (as you may remember from the bottom of  this post) that it would be great if I compiled an ebook filled with my favorite resources. Because apparently I’m “always talking about some new cool thing.”
